Math
Covers principles of basic math, pipe measurements, formulas for related math in the pipe trades, metric measurements and instruments used for the layout of piping systems.

Use and Care of Tools
Keeps apprentices aware of current information on various types of tools, the correct and safe use of tools and knowledge of when and how they should be used as well as proper care of tools.
Soldering & Brazing/Oxy-Acet Cutting
Preparation and joining of the cup type copper tube joint both by the soldering and brazing methods. Proper and safe use of tools, torches, solders, filler metals and fluxes used in making copper tube joints. Brazing techniques for the installation of medical gas systems and certified brazer qualification.
Rigging & Signaling
Affords apprentices with information necessary to protect themselves and their fellow workers against injury while handling the materials and equipment they work with every day.
Heritage
An overview of the opportunities provided in a pipe trades career as well as the responsibilities and attitudes required for success.
SECOND YEAR
Related Science
Covers properties of water, laws of hydraulics and pneumatics as they relate to piping systems, basic principles of mechanics to tools of the pipe trades, metals used in the piping industry, corrosion and its effect on piping materials.
Drawing Interpretation
Provides an introduction to basic drawing tools, measuring tools and lettering skills; three-view, plan view and elevation view drawings; graphic symbols for pipe fittings and valves; interpretation of technical diagrams; piping drawings; interpretation of building plans and building specifications.
Air Conditioning
Installation and service are covered in-depth for all types of air conditioning systems. Covers theory, psychrometrics, all types of related equipment, energy conservation, heat recovery, sound abatement and other topics with which pipe trades journeypersons must be familiar.
Plumbing Fixtures and Installations
Covers the handling and installation of the various types of plumbing fixtures and appliances. Also provides information on accessories and fixture controls (flushmeters, faucets, etc.).
Electricity
Safety and the basic fundamentals of electricity are needed to understand the function and operation of the electric and electronic controls used in connection with mechanical systems.
THIRD YEAR
High Pressure Steam & Power Piping
Latest information on safe and efficient operation of high pressure boilers and related equipment; includes steam boiler operations, fittings and accessories, boiler operation safety, combustion and computer-assisted combustion controls, boiler water treatment and testing.
Water Supply
Water treatment, water mains and services, building water supply systems and hot water supply; provides detailed descriptions of the purpose and function of the various components of a water supply system.
Advanced Plan Reading
Working sketches, the development of sleeve and coordinated drawings and an introduction to computer aided drafting (CAD). Specifications and building plans are covered.
FOURTH YEAR
Welding
Oxy-acetylene and oxy-fuel cutting and welding progressing through shielded metal-arc welding test procedures. Safety is stressed throughout as the tools, equipment, types of rod weld positions, proper gaps, bevels and various types of lap and butt joints.
Drainage
Sewage disposal, sewers and drains, building drainage systems, the plumbing trap and venting the drainage system.
Pneumatic Controls
Basic pneumatic control principles aimed at providing a general knowledge of the subject to all pipe tradespersons.
FIFTH YEAR
Plumbing Code
Preparation to pass the Maryland State Journey Plumber examination.
Backflow Certification
Presents guidelines for acceptable practices for testing, annual inspection and repair and maintenance of backflow prevention assemblies used in cross-connection control programs.
Advanced Welding
Process used to connect pipe and fittings together in a manner that will keep them as strong as the piping system itself. This includes TIG, MIG, Stick and orbital welding.
